We are currently working with one of Australia’s leading renewable energy companies that develop, operate and own renewable energy assets in Australia. As an upshot of growth, our client is looking for a Senior Lawyer, Energy Markets.
You will be responsible for advising their customer and energy markets team (and other teams in the business) on their new trading and energy retail business, and on commodity sale and purchase agreements (for electricity, gas, renewable energy certificates and other products) with particular emphasis on offtake and transportation arrangements with respect to new and existing assets across the business's portfolio.
You will be the lead lawyer for supporting their trading and retail business, and also lead commercial contract negotiations, structures and deals, draft complex agreements and ensures compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- providing strategic legal advice on the compliance and set up of the energy trading and retail businesses, including requirements with respect to the AFSL and energy retail licence;
- being the legal advisor on all on-market and off-market (OTC) trading arrangements (including on the ISDA form) and on energy retail transactions and credit requirements;
- being the lead legal negotiator on significant business contracts related to the bilateral sale and purchase (or trading) of electricity (or gas or renewable energy certificates) from their energy projects.
About youCandidates will have 8+ years PAE experience in either an in-house, or law firm environment in the energy sector. Ideally 5+ years in an energy trading or energy retail business. Also ideally, experience in the negotiation and drafting of ISDA electricity trading agreements or retail energy contracts.
