Our client is a leading global provider of reinsurance, insurance and other insurance-based forms of risk transfer. 

The Role

In this pivotal role, you will support the General Counsel in Australia and provide comprehensive legal and compliance services across the region. You’ll focus on areas such as life and health reinsurance, property & casualty reinsurance, and direct general insurance, advising on a variety of legal matters with an emphasis on regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and risk management.

Key responsibilities include: 

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial and legal agreements;
• Advise on regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and risk management issues;
• Provide legal support for strategic initiatives across the ANZ region;
• Collaborate with teams across multiple jurisdictions and manage external counsel as necessary;
• Stay abreast of regulatory changes and ensure compliance with local laws; and
• Support corporate secretarial functions and advise local boards.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will be an Australian-qualified lawyer with a minimum of 10 years’ post-admission experience, gained either in a top-tier law firm or an in-house legal environment. 

Additionally, you will have:

• A strong background in financial services, particularly in re/insurance, with in-depth knowledge of regulatory matters across ANZ jurisdictions.
• Proven experience advising on complex legal and regulatory issues across multiple jurisdictions.
• Strong project management, communication, and organisational skills
• Ability to influence and collaborate across teams in a decentralised structure.
